Winter Art ~ Snow and Ice Sculpting in Jackson, NH

Did you think Jackson only hosted artists in the tradition of the White Mountain School of Art? Of course, every snowflake that falls here is its own unique art form, but January also brings out the brave sculptors of ice and snow! The Wentworth hosted its annual ice carving competition this week, when nine carvers had three hours to finish their art. The results are displayed on The Wentworth’s porch as long as arctic temperatures allow.

The snow sculptors will have longer for their competition later this month – from Friday, January 27 until noon Sunday, January 29. Teams of sculptors from both New Hampshire and neighboring states are coming to Jackson that weekend to create works of art out of four foot by eight foot cylinders of snow. Team members come from a variety of backgrounds including chefs, architects, students, and various civic organizations. The State Championship winner receives an invitation to compete in the US National Snow Sculpting Competition to be held at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. We are proud to help sponsor this Jackson Chamber of Commerce event, so come to Jackson, watch the sculptors, vote for your favorite for the “People’s Choice” award, and enjoy our winter wonderland…it’s an art exhibit like no other!
